Default Space requirements and other general information

    Hi
Im Josie and I'm currently registering as a childminder, so I'm new to this forum.

I was wondering if anyone could help me with the requirement of space for each child.

I know the requiremnets is 2.5 or 3.5 sq metres per child, but I dont understand if this includes furniture and toys in the room which I'm using for childminding.

Also where can I get ideas for menus for children in my care? How much do I charge for childminding, i intend to work 8-6pm Mon-Friday and provide food, snacks, and outings? Do I charge when I'm on holiday, sick or vice versa?

    Please someone help me.
    Look forward to your replys

Hi, and welcome to the forum! I think you might get more replies if you posted this under 'Starting Childminding and Pre-registration visits' rather than the paperwork section.

I am not sure about the space requirements so I will pass on that one, but Mrs O will check the amount of space and let you know how many children you can look after at your pre-reg visit.

***** has a section with easy meal ideas for the whole family so you could start there. Or just cook what you normally do for your own family.

I charge £5/hour but the rates vary massively in different areas. You could call up a few nurseries in your neighbourhood pretending to be a parent and ask what they charge. Also, have a look on childcare.co.uk as some childminders list their rates on there.

I don't charge when I am on holiday or sick, but charge in full when the child is on holiday or sick. Other childminders do it differently. It is up to you to decide how you want to charge.
