    Default Home Insurance help

    Hi guys
I just wondered who you are all insured with. I have struggled to get cover since I started Childminding. We are with Direct Line but its just gone up £60 for the year and was wondering who else to try. Any suggestions gratefully received..................

I'm insured with Churchill, wasn't anymore expensive because I'm a childminder, I even have accident cover a usual no no when it comes to insurance companies and childminders unless you go for the specialist insurers. I also made sure I have a written confirmation from them saying they know I'm a childminder and that accident cover is included as I couldn't believe it.

Spent years with expensive specialist childminder companies, I don't think you have to nowadays but you may have to shop around.

I'm with direct line. The renewal price they send us often is not the same price as the price they give if you get a new quote on-line as you then get all sorts of discounts! You can then call them with the on-line quote & they'll honour that one. Extra hassle but can save quite a lot of money,

We were with Direct Line last year and also had the £60+ price hike on the renewal quote. They're just trying it on.

I called them and asked why. They said the first year had a "new customer discount" so I said, "fine, I'll cancel and find another company that will give me their 'new customer discount' and just move insurers every year." Amazingly, they were able to offer me a "loyalty discount" instead. It really is a case of "if you don't ask, you don't get". It's happening all over the place: cellphone contracts, energy tarrifs, etc.

It actually cost them a customer. I called Bluefin out of curiosity and was offered a standard deal (no gimmicks/discounts) which saved a further £45 on Direct Line's best offer.

You'd think a premium might go down rather than up after a year of no claims, but then we're all subsiding the mototrists so they can keep car insurance competitive.

I've got it through Morton Michel as their prices were actually a lot cheaper than the quotes with 'regular' insurers.

I'm not a member of Morton Michel so don't get any additional discounts or anything, but they have always been prompt in replying to emails and providing advice etc.. so would be happy to recommend getting a quote from them.
