    Default £939

That's how much Santander want for Building insurance to cover me as a childminder. That is £492.80 more than we were already paying.

I'm still waiting to find out how much insuring the car will be.

Right now I feel like screaming

Shop around! It can be done much cheaper than that. We are with direct line.

Why would childminding affect your buildings insurance? Isn't that for things like the roof and rebuilding of house etc, what do they expect the children to do?

We went with the AA and they were great when we had a tank burst in our loft in Jan 10 had to move out for 4 months and they paid out nearly 50 thousand on putting the house back together again. They never once said we are not paying for that. We don't pay anymore for being a childminder.

We are with The Halifax and they charge us £31.00 per month!

I would tell Santander where to stick their quote

Go through the NCMA linked insurers they are very competitive - I pay only 300 per year for buildings and contents combined
I'm not paranoid - the world IS out to get me!

Santander refused to cover my dh and i, both of us are registered childminders and they said that they would not insure us at all, so we had to move to Churchill and bizarrely it saved us money and included acc damage and a plumbing emergency cover.

I am with Churchill and being a childminder it doesn't effect my insurance policy being with them as they don't include Childminders as businesses in their terms it actually says "excluding Childminders". So I am paying £25 per month for a 3 bedroom semi house x

I found MM to be more expensive than I had already been paying but they told me I was in a high risk area...........I haven't seen a PC around here for months!!!

Direct Line came up trumps for me with the best premium coupled with the best cover terms - a winner all round for me. Coincidentally, I switched the house insurance to Churchill (also owned by RBS) and like Direct Line does not appear on price comparison websites - the money they would have to pay to the price comparison website is instead used to reduce their customers' premiums............simple isn't it?
