It does not need to be an exact age as children develop at different rates whatever their ages. So think about a 1, 2 or 3 year old. The pre-reg booklet is to help you think through things prior to the pre-reg visit, you need to be prepared to discuss the ideas you write in the booklet- so keep it simple and generalised and be able to expand further if asked.

You might write 'number rhymes' as an activity and you can then talk further and give examples if the inspector asks what would be suitable for a particular child/age/situation/area of learning.

When the Inspector telephoned me to arrange the pre-reg visit, she said on the 'phone that I needed to look at activities for a 12 month old and a four year old. I found that the thing that helped me was to get all the 7 areas of learning into my head (and make sure I understood each one) and then think of activities they I would typically be doing each day. For example, doing baking (not that I'm any great shakes at cake making!) would be a great activity for helping a four year old with their maths (measuring, sizes etc) and also help a one year old with communication and language (talking through the activity together).
When I was preparing for my pre-reg I read a great past post on here from someone who said that they'd approached that particular question by just using one activity for each learning area and then discussing with the Inspector how children of varying ages would get different aspects of learning out of each activity. That's how I went through it with the Inspector and she was happy with what I told her.
As I say, what may be helpful is to be familiar and comfortable with what the 7 learning areas are and then between now and your pre-reg think about different activities and then ask yourself what are the learning opportunities from each activity. Hope this makes sense!!
