    Default Planning

I struggle to do short term planning as I never stick to it, but find it helpful to pick things out of my medium term planning what I want to do that week.
Would it be alright to do focused short term planning, one focus a week for each child based on my medium term planning.

Do you base your planning on what you observe the children doing/saying/enjoying, or do you base it on themes?

Individual short term planning is best for under 3s as it focusses on the child, their interests and learning styles etc. Just follow it on from observations you did over the previous weeks.

For older children I always have a plan in the background but they often go off on a tangent and do something else. i just write it onto the plan. However I find that if I spend time finding out what the children want to do as part of the planning they are more focussed.

A bit of both really, I am doing a home/pets topic this term because I look after a little girl who loves playing with dolls.
