5 month old - what do i need to do?

I am starting with my 5 month old grandson soon, I am not childminding in an official capacity (I mean I am not getting paid!!), but I am still going to do EYFS with him. What do I need to do for a baby this small with regards to observations and planning? My instinct would be just to do lots of photo's with little notes as to what he was doing in them and a kind of timetable, with one or two more in depth obs a month. Does this sound about right or am I totally off track?

This sounds fine to me! Your son/daughter should be very pleased that you're making that much effort when you're not being paid!

My son, sadly, appreciates nothing!! But I'm not doing it for him, I'm doing it for my grandson, he deserves better!!! Sorry..... I'm on a downer with my son at the moment. Anyway, I am doing the Learning Journey for him, partly because I don't have any other children in the EYFS and am due my inspection soon and partly because I think it will be lovely for him to have when he is older and his mummy will appreciate it, I hope.
