    Hello

I am still confused with this side of childminding so hope you dont mind me asking lots of advise for obs i have taken to help me understand it a bit more
    first question below lol.

my 3 year old said today when we were on way to soft play area the light is red we need to stop I think i would link this to kuw but not sure if it would be right and what the next steps would be. Any advise would be great.

    Thank you

    I would say relates to:

    PSED - own safety
CLL - language for communication and thinking
KUW - Exploration and Investigation 30-50months

Ooh like that one Sarah! Next steps could be looking at other ways to cross safely if there isn't a light ie pelican crossing, or a bit of role play making your own crossings etc.......

next steps - blowing the lights till they turn green

thats what i encourage my mindees to do when we are stuck at red lights, i tell them they are not blowing hard enough and then when the lights do turn green i praise them and say they are getting much better at it.

This is a great starting point to expand on road safety whereby you can set-up small world play with cars and road mats but the most fun is outdoor road signs.

We have made our own signs (CD Exploring media and materials) written the words (CLL Writing) and speed limtis (PSRN Using Numbers) then set them up on the grass, I used cereal boxes cut into rounds for the signs and then sellotaped to broom handles or garden canes and either stuck into the grass or held up in parasol bases.

The children then darted around the obstacle course on ride on cars (PD). I would encourage communication and observing the signs between the children (PSE) and then later followed up by printing out photos we had taken of traffic lights and lollipop ladies, etc and use them as flash cards whenever we go out. It keeps them quiet in the car also as they are trying to spot the pictures whilst out and about (KUW)
