    Default 'mud pit'

my son and one of my mindees have had a great time digging in the raised beds in the veggie patch but now we are getting ready to plant the veggies they cant really dig in there! i have managed to get hold of another sand pit on freecycle so want to make a mud pit but my question is do i need to use a certain type of soil or will multi purpose compost/ a grow bag be suitable? i just worry about any chemicals etc that have been added to the soil. Obviously with sand you can just buy play sand!
