    Default mercury in tuna

I don't know if you are all aware of the safe limits on tuna for children, I only found out today!! My ds has tuna sandwiches for lunch every day

'Since children get most of their mercury from canned tuna, it is important for parents to limit their children's consumption to less than one ounce of canned light tuna for every 12 pounds of body weight per week, in order to stay below the level of mercury the EPA considers safe. That means that a child who weighs 36 pounds should not eat more than 3 ounces (half a standard-sized can of chunk light tuna) per week. Children should avoid albacore or white tuna because the levels of mercury are higher.'

We have it once a week - I've been aware of it for 12 years (was a paranoid pregnant Mum first time round)!

I saw this on This morning show a few months ago. I told my daughter about it because the mercury can cause headaches and she loves tuna. She now only eats it once a week and the headaches have stopped.

Thanks for the info, I wasn't aware of the limits quoted. I don't give it to my mindees but love it myself.
