Default Raw sugar snap peas... Poisonous?

Does anyone know if it's safe to eat sugar snap peas/ mangetout raw? I have been using them in lunch boxes for packed lunches, but a parent has come in today and said that they shouldn't be eaten raw? When I asked why she said that because of where they grow and the fact that even if you wash them they still don't get properly clean. I've googled it and cant find any info, apparently Dad has read an article about this. I've always done this and am now worried I've been putting the los in danger.

I've never heard this before. We too often eat them raw...delish, and I've definitely seen them in recipes for salads raw.

Glad I'm not the only one! Think I'll need to ask Dad for a copy of the article. Dh says just to leave it as it may sound petty, but I really do want to know!

i thinkits only the flowers that are poisonous, apparently you can eat some of the flowers but only when they are in bud...certain parts of it are poisonous but not the actual part we all love to scoff

I love them raw, I eat them even though I'm slightly allergic to the pods, and I have done so all my life. They can't be any harder to clean than other veg growing in the garden, surely?

I thought the whole idea with mangetout was you ate them raw or very lightly steamed.

Glad to hear they aren't poisonous!

That made me think.....maybe he's thinking of sweetpeas? the pods of those are definitely poisonous and it could be possible for someone to mix up the names sugarsnap and sweet maybe?

No, it was sugar snap peas, as they provided them so knew what they were.
