    Default Highchairs - how old?

How old are your toddlers when you no longer put them in highchairs?

I've never had booster seats for my big table and don't really want to buy them (not sure my unusual dining chairs would work with them anyway). My children in the past have gone straight to sitting at a little table and chairs. The problem I now have is that only one of my toddlers could possibly be ready for that but the other two who are here on the same day still need a highchair, so he would be sitting there by himself, much lower than the others. I like him still in a highchair, because I know he's safe if I'm getting hot stuff out of the oven etc. and he doesn't mind. I'm just wondering if there is an age where it is frowned upon. Mindee is just over 2 and a half.

    Morning!

I usually have mine in highchairs until about 18 mths/ until they can safely sit at a low chair at the 'little' table.
And then they tend to stay sitting at the little table until they are in reception. I have a couple of chairs with tall legs ( bit like bar stools ) that I use at the big table if I have a small reception, but that's it. I don't use booster seats.

My newest mindee wouldn't countenance the highchair at all, so went straight to sitting at little table at 11mths!!!!

I think it really depends on the child but I know what you mean about being high while the others are sitting at a low table as that what currently happens here. Before Covid everyone used to sit up the kitchen table but then during the height of the pandemic we were told to minimise which rooms we used etc by our LA so the children starting eating in the playroom which they preferred and I have stuck with it. My little one seems happy enough being in the high chair, the other children chat away to her .

I don't really have room for storing highchairs, so like to get the children out of them as soon as possible. I rarely take on children under the age of 18 months, so haven't needed to use a highchair for a long time. As long as the child can sit up in a chair I put them at the little table. I've got a combination of stools and chairs that they use. The older ones like the stools and the younger ones tend to go in the chairs with arms. I push the chairs right up to the table so there's no escaping!

The 2 and a half year old hasn't been in a highchair here for a very long time, but I know he still goes in one at home as that suits the family better. I'd say go with whatever works best for you.
