Book suggestions please
Has anyone got any suggestions for nice books about summer?
I've been restocking the book box and want some lovely bright books to add to it. A lot of the books I've got seem a bit dull for summer - if that makes sense! So far I've got some books about the beach and a seasons counting book. I'm looking for picture books and story books.

I've just got a nice book about Bees from the library called 'lift and look Bees' in conjunction with Kew Gardens. They also do a plant one.
I have another lovely bee story 'nature's tiny miracle BEE' by Britta Teckentrap.
I've got a non fiction book about summer called 'go facts summer'.
I don't seem to have any 'summer' books per se, so I'll be watching with interest.
Oh, we have 'The pig in pond's by Martin Waddell ... it's a hot day and the pig jumps in the pond! Fantastic story, lots of repetition and the children love it. Also 'Down by the cool of the pool' by Tony Mitten.... lots of rhymes ... but not necessarily summer!

I don't have many summer based books but a current favourite here is 'Pip and Posy and the new friend' which is based on the beach.

My mindees like the pip and posey books . I don’t think I have summer ones either which is strange as I have autumn and winter based books.

Dragonfly, that's exactly what I thought. I have books for all the other seasons, but nothing specifically for summer!
My mindees all like Pip & Posy books at the moment. I'd not heard of them until someone on here (I think it was) recommended the Christmas book, which was very popular.
Thank you for your suggestions Loocyloo. I'll have a look at some of those.

It's funny how there are books for all the other seasons and not so much for Summer isn't it?
Shirley Hughes has a few that are based in summer - they are possibly in her compilations rather than sold separately.
Years ago I got a book from the library by Jools/Jules Oliver (wife of Jamie) and it was four stories in one book - one based in each season.

Last week at the library, we picked up 'What the ladybird heard at the seaside' by Julia Donaldson. The original isn't particularly one i like, so although we brought it home, i didn't rush to read it! We read it today, and i thought of this thread ... as it starts by saying 'one July ...' It's a nice enough story and lovely glittery pages, with lots to talk about, but i won't be adding it to my collection!

Yesterday at the charity shop I picked up a book called 'Sunny Day' by Anna Milbourne and Elena Temporin (Usborne). The pictures in it are lovely, especially the page where the children see bees and a bee hive.

That book sounds lovely. Wish I was lucky in charity shops. I’ve just paid out mega price 12.99 for a book called
The woolly bear caterpillar by Julia Donaldson and some body else but not came across his name before so it’s not stuck in my head.
Not read it yet so can’t say if it’s a hit with the children or not.
I was thinking about getting what the ladybird heard at the seaside but maybe I won’t now loocyloo !

Oh, and don’t ask why I brought the woolly bear caterpillar I don’t know myself, hopefully it will be a good story and that will justify the purchase.
