Messy play ideas
What are your best messy play/sensory tray ideas?

Mud! Or pretend mud. Using flour water and cocoa powder or chocolate angel delight.
I done a set up of what the lady bird heard on the tuft tray not so long ago with a pretend pond and a muddy farm yard. They had great fun putting the animals and tractor in the mud.
Foam is good but after clearing up you always tend to get left with dull marks.
Water play ie making potions with herbs, lemons, flower petals, leaves whatever you gather really.and of course some water.
We also made flour from wheat this summer very messy but good.chaff everywhere!

We use sand; on its own, with water, with washing up liquid, with shaving foam ... all sorts!
Water beads ( used for flower arranging )
Dried flowers/ conkers/ pine cones/ bark/ sticks / shells/pebbles etc ... all collected on our travels and dried if necessary. Great for small world play.
Glass pebbles in water
Water for pouring and measuring
I've also used dried pasta/ lentils/ rice/ unpopped popcorn.
Different playdoughs ... colour/ scent/ texture
Loads of ideas on Pinterest

cornflour and water - keep it varied or link it to a theme/festival/season by adding different colours, scents or textures
