    Default On my own..

So im in the process of separating from my partner. I have never childminded while being on my own and been fortunate enough to have that second person re rent & bills etc.

I have a few questions that some of you may be able to answer/help me with.

Do any of you claim housing benefit & if so how do you find it works with such an up and down income?

I have mixed children in terms of funded and not. My 'rule' was that everyone paid me a retainer in the holidays but my main family doesnt. They are term time which got me to realising 2 of my term time funded children means I don't get paid then either. Im going to struggle and wondered how you you cope and if you charge? Mine go to college or don't work so they cant find the money to pay the retainer so I feel a bit stuck.

Anything ive forgot or am missing?
    Thanks

I'm a single parent and have been childminding for nearly 5 years now.

I do get some housing benefit to help, I tell the council each time a child leaves/starts, tell them what hours I'm working, how much I'm warning etc. I also provide them with an estimated profit & loss account to show them what I think I'll be earning. They send me review forms every 3 months to confirm my earnings. It's daunting at first but once you've got your head around it its pretty easy.

I also only work term time at the minute, two families wanted their bills split over 12 months which is great for me as I still get paid over the holidays.

    Hope this helps

Sorry, I've nothing much of use to say other than I know there's a lot of demand for holiday childcare in our area, if you are working through the school holidays. It would be worth asking primary and preschools if you can put a letter in book bags.
