Default Microsoft word, or something else?

I've got a new laptop and it didn't come with work already installed on it I signed up to the free trial but now it's ran out, they was around £100!
Is there a program that does the same for free, or cheaper or have I got to fork out £100?

If you have a hotmail account you can use sky drive which uses Word, Excel etc, you can upload and download files and also can get to your docs on any computer wherever you are. I use Open Office too

Ive just started the Microsoft office package you down load. Its either £7.99 per month or £79.00 for 12 months. This gives you access for 5 computers under the one log in. I thought that was quite a good deal TBH. Not sure if this helps?
