    You can have 6 children under 8 at any one time. The 6 include your own children as you know.

    I sometimes make myself a chart with 6 under 8 spaces and fill them in!

    For continuity of care you can juggle spaces for under 5s but it must only be done in exceptional circumstances - not for new business.

    The 9 year old will not come in your numbers for Ofsted but if you go over 6 children on the premises you should contact your local authority about possibly needing planning permission.
