Default What to charge for school drop off and pick up?

So sorry if this has been asked a million times... but I've only minded babies so far, and now facing a query from a parent to do school drop off and pick up 3 days a week (two siblings).

What would you charge, just your normal hourly rate.. or..?
She's coming to see me tomorrow! Advice appreciated.

    Thanks xx

Personally I charge a pick up/drop off fee of £3 per day plus my normal hourly rate per child.

    Hiya,

I charge £20 for drop of and pick up (including up to 5 hours care). Unless you're dropping off and picking up anyway, it's not worth your while for much less.

    good luck xx

I wouldnt charge your hourly rate but more. I made the mistake of not thinking about it properly and so when the parents came i just said £4 an hour. So 3 mornings a week i have to get me, my 2 year old a 3 year old out the house (and my twins as of next may) out the house for £4. Then out again to collect them again for £4. Wish i had charged more.

My last childminder charged 5pound per hour but had the start time of 3pm even though she didn't collect until 3.20pm... she said this was because she had to be there by 3pm as she was on the way from collecting her own daughters from school at half 2 and didn't have time to go back home. She also charged me until 6pm which was her closing time even though I had always picked up by 5pm. When I asked her about this she said she charged per session! So really I think you can charge what you think is fair.

I agree, wish I'd charged a little more. I charg £3.50 per hour, I have her 1.5 hr before school, 1 hr after, so for £8 or thereabouts a day, I walk a mile to school and a mile back, with my 4 year old (who deosn't start school til next year) and my 15 month old.

What I say to people is think carefully about it. You need to feel at the end of the day that it was worthwhile. When the sun is shining and we are happy we don't think about the money too much but picture the day when it is pouring with rain and you are pushing a double buggy and you get soaked to the skin, if you are only chargin a £5 you will soon get fed up!
