    Default Average wage/salary?

I have been doing a bit of research online regarding ofsted, what by local council offers, training, hourly rates & fees, and came across this

    http://www.mysalary.co.uk/average-sa...ildminder_4842

The average salary of a childminder

Without wanting to ask any questions that are too personal, is this a true estimation? Or do you just think this is a random figure, as everyone works different hours etc

    I'm a complete novice btw

lol, turnover maybe - salary? unlikely - maybe on a very good year. Even if you turned over over £20k by the time you take off expenses it's unlikely to top £13K or so.

Crikey you'd have to be working a LOT of hours to make that... or live in central London maybe.

So, the figure for 2008 of £30,000 is a slight over estimation then?

I earnt about £17,000 financial year 2008-2009 (haven't finished 2009-2010 yet - this weekend I will finish it).

That was of course earning full time with 3 under 5' and 3 over 5's in the holidays. Don't think it will be anywhere near this time.by the time I took of expenses, etc I had £600 tax to pay and not a lot to show for it.

SO I wouldn't get excited quite yet

So much depends on geographical location. Around parts of Surrey, the rate is commonly £6.50 per hour so if you had two full time children from 8.00 to 6.00 each day for say 48 weeks a year - assuming you had four weeks holiday - that would produce a gross income of £31,200 so after expenses then yes, the figure in the survey is easily achievable. Maybe, the survey was not balanced with a larger number of people from one part of the country taking part than another! Add in another part-timer and without any school pickups, the so called north-side divide becomes very apparent.

I see this survey is based on just 6 respondants!!!!
On my best ever year my cross income was 17 k , but after allowable expenses my earnings were 11k and that, like most of us is for a minimum of 50 hrs a week. My wages net were about £4.25 per hr.
This year as I only have one main mindee I am earning about £1.75 per hr!!
Yet another survey to make parents think we are raking it in!!!

In Greater London earning over £30k (gross) is easily attainable if working full days and full up! My fee was £6 p/hr for the last 3 yrs, have recently put it up to £6.50 p/hr.

I have never heard a CM charging £8 p/hr for all day, every day care... unless it's for emergency/short term care, then that's what I charge.

It's known that two thirds of our income is usually swollowed up by expenses is this still the case when earning 25-30K?

I don't have any of my own children counted in my numbers and in the school holidays I can be on £40 an hour so it could be attainable BUT it wouldn't be the average

Just worked out if I maxed out my numbers and did 3x U5 and 3 schoolies all for 5 days per week

based on my current charges I could do....

£45,150 term time only! before tax of course.

    Or

£49,850 if I worked all year round and had the schoolies in the hols too.

However I would #1 have no kids of my own and #2 be off my rocker!
