Parents pay me by the session.
This way if they only use me from say 9am - 12pm, I still get paid from 8am-1pm. I explain it is because I cannot fill the odd hours they are not using.
I have been Childminding since 2006 and I have never had a parent moan or complain about the way I charge, although I realise this may not work for everyone.
    Hi Toothfairy ,
Thinking about revamping my charges and yur way does appeal. What would you do if, say, a parent wanted 8am to 1.30? If I tried to do sessions I'd definitely have this problem with the families i have now. Is it the norm in your area to charge by sessions?
Hope you don't mind the questions

    Best wishes,
    Wendy

    So many variations!

Here is West Sussex, a typical rate is £4.50 per hour. I actually charge £4.25 per hour but that does not include anything such as meals, nappies, outings etc. which are all chargeable extras.

    I charge £3.50 p/hr for 20hrs a week or less (minimum 4hrs per week).
£3.40 for more than 20hrs per week.

I don't like daily rates as it encourages people to use the 'full' time slot, if they are paying by the hour then it's not so bad, but they are still contracted for certain hours each day and they only get a refund if they change the contract itself.
I also only do full hours or half hours and they are rounded UP in my favour.

I include all meals (hot/cold), snacks, entrance fees, parents provide food for babies (under 12 months), nappies, wipes, nappy sacks and spare clothes.

I'd rather have a decent amount per hour for a small amount of children than have lots of kids to get the same 'wage' Some parents out there do like 'smaller' CM groups and feel that I'm more geared towards babies and kids under 3yrs old anyway.
Get enough trouble from my own kids, so not that keen to have after schoolers

I am in Warwickshire and I charge betwen £4.50 - £5.00 per hour and don't do before or after school tried that and didn't like it. All my parents provide their food never asked them to they just wanted to.

I don't do daily rates or weekly rates as parents abuse it.

I live in Warwickshire and I charge £3.75 per hour for under 1 year and £3.50 per hour for 1 year and over, I don't provide food, drinks or snacks as I ask parents to do this, although I will provide water to drink.
I looked at the charges for my area and thought this was a reasonable rate and I myself would be happy and able to pay this if I was still working for an employer ( I used to use a childminder who charged £4.50 in my area, when I got paid at the end of each month most of my wages went to her!!! so it really wasn`t worth me working) Which is one of the reasons I myself became a CM, All of my spaces are full at the moment so £3.50 per hour, per child soon adds up...
Although I will up my prices by 25p in the near future
