It varies hugely depending on which part of town you live ... why not go onto Childcare.co.uk and approach some local childminders -make new friends

Are you a new Childminder? Find out if there any childminding groups in your area - if you have a Children's Centre in your town, you could ask them if they have links with the local childminders. If you still have a Childcare Advisor employed by the Council contact her and ask.

Have you got a local Parents facebook page - I am a member of the one in my town and so are lots of the local childminders, you could use it to ask if there is a network or toddler group for childminders.

We have a brilliant Independent Network in our town, we formed it 3+ years ago when our Childcare advisor was made redundant - hopefully you will find something similar in your area.

Am I the only one that is sick of seeing this sort of question?

Do people ask this question in any other context than childcare? Frinstance, how about, "Hi just would like to know the prices restaurants are charging in Hampshire? Well, anything from £2.69 for a Happy Meal at Rownhams Services to £55 for a basic set menu choice at Restaurant 27 in Southsea (no drink or toy included). But where exactly is the comparison?

Price alone means nothing to a childminder who cares about their business, nor to a parent who cares about their child.

I find often childminders don't like to advertise their fees. I went with the decision to advertise mine so that parents know when they come to see me what i charge. I dont do any discounts for anyone. I charge per hour the child attends but everyone does it differently. Some include nappies and wipes, some dont, some include meals, some don't. So when you see the 'headline price' be careful to find out what it does/doesn't cover.
This is going to be a MASSIVE generalisation but in the south (not including London here) you will find childminders charging anywhere between £3.50 an hour which i would consider very low up to £7.50 an hour - you will find most charge somewhere in between.
Have a look on childcare.co.uk and your council website to see what people in your area charge.
