    Default charges when it snows

Fellow childminders, can you tell me if you still request full payment if a child doesn't attend due to snow? I've seen the forecast for next week and want to be prepared!

Yes I would if I was able to work and they cannot get to you. If I cancel my school run due to snow I dont charge my parents for that.

Many thanks. I suppose its no different to other forms of absence really. I normally charge if the children are sick or on holiday, i should apply tho same to to snow like you said. :-)

Previously I have always still charged (as I continued to work). Most children stay at home (but still pay) & a couple who usually would only come before/after school have stayed all day (and paid extra).

I will always attempt to get to school if it was open & I felt it safe to do so (we only have a 10 minute walk through the park), although I make it clear to parents that we won't hurry and will probably be late!!

I guess it ultimately depends on who is making the decision - whether you are chosing to close, or whether you remain open to those who can get to you.

I would still charge as I am available, I try to be flexible where I can so if reasonable I could have the child the next day - if parent wants to swap their work day (all of mine are part time).

As long as parents could physically still get to me then yes I would charge

If I lived in an area that was snowed it making it impossible to open then no I wouldnt
When someone tells you nothing is impossible, tell them to go slam a revolving door

Am I being unfair I've told parents that I'll stay open tomorrow were in mid Wales and expecting alot of snow over night both parents of tomorrow's children have 4X4s and so do I so we can still get in and out even in really bad weather. One parent texted me asking do I still charge if she doesn't fetch child tomorrow and I've said yes as I am planning on working plus I've already bought food for dinner, snacks and planned activities
