Safety and suitability of premises, environment and equipment: the requirements in relation to risk assessment have been adjusted to clarify that it is for providers to judge whether a risk assessment needs to be recorded in writing.

...so actually, it will be up to the inspector to judge whether or not we need RA. just like now

Staff:child ratios: there is a clarification of the circumstances in which there may be exceptions to the staff:child ratios for childminders caring for children of mixed ages.

this is what it says in the revised documentexceptions to the usual ratios can be made when childminders are caring for sibling babies, or when caring for their own baby. so what about continuity of care ??? all my variations are for continuity of care. ( and i'll probably need a new continuity of care come september as parents starting new courses etc )

I think it means you have to had the initial traing in eyfs before registering - not level 3 x

Is that Sept 2013? My do told my friend cm that any childminders that dont have the level 3 qualification by the date advised that yes they would have to give up childminding. This has caused me no end of worries as I have to pay to do my level 3 (although today been told I might get funding ) if not in Spet when I get some new mindees I will have to pay and cheapest fees are £600 so far

I was looking into working up to diploma level anyway.. but if there's a time limit on it then i aren't sure if i'm going to be able to do it! especially if i have to pay as i can not afford it! Plus i have to work full time still as there is little interest around here for childminders! :/

Where can we find out about when/if we need to do a level 3. I've not got it and not planing to for a while as I only have a small income and not much spare time to study beyond my working hours. Surely this can't be right? How could they justify changing what has been the norm for years?? Don't get it

In devon you have to have the training before you register and this has been different from other counties and in place for some time. The requirement was for the level 3 ICP so not the whole qualification just the unit that covers EYFS and safeguarding and running a childminding business.
Perhaps this is what is meant by the requirement?
I also do not have the complete qualification. I have been looking into training but have had difficulties getting support. For example it appears the qualification I did last year is not relevant for the new diploma and as a graduate I am not entitled to the funding.

Also if this is a new requirement I am pretty sure that they will not just stop childminders practising if they don't have it. Even If it would become a requirement of those already in childminding with their experience and knowledge then it would be more likely they would ask for them to get it by a certain date?

The reforms come in in September 2012 so it would be unrealistic for all childminders to give up childminding if the don't have a level 3!

As far as i have read so far it seems to just come across as the BIT course stuff.

    Question.. probably really obvious answer...

Can we start using this new version now? OR do we have to wait untill september before we can make changes? Because seeing as i have no kids on roll it'd be much easier for me to go straight in with the new stuff.

I am doing the diploma in home based child care at the moment and from the gossip in the class room it does seem that they are deciding how long they will give childminders to get a level 3 and if after that date they have not got one they will have to stop childminding, a few on my course are only doing the course as they have already been told they will have to stop in the next year or two once the date is set.

I agree with Rainbow mum, the way i read and understood it is that group settings will need to be level 3 but childminders will have to do the eyfs training before registering with ofsted

I may be in that position myself - hoping that Ofsted aren't closing the door on continuity of care variations.

Nvq 3 is just for group settings (nursery) childminders have tondo the introdutory training that we do now, although if you get offered a funded level 3 I would do it as eventually I expect it will become mandatory.

I wish I'd seen your post first. I saw the new eyfs and pressed 'print' not realising it was 30 pages long
