Default PLOD possible lines of direction.

hello, can any one throw any light on 'PLOD'. A friend of mine who is also a childminder has been told to look into PLOD, and I have absolutely no idea what it is?
    many thanks

I think it's also known as "next steps" - what you can do to further a child's development based on their individual interests.

That's a nice example Hello Kitty thank you for sharing!

PLODS are as simple or as complicated as you want to make them, they basically show children's learning and development as it progresses and as you plan next steps.

so would you put this in the childs L J, and use it as a next steps sheet, insted of just writing next steps on an observation? or have i got it completly wrong

You might choose to use it instead of a next steps sheet... or you could use a combination of next steps and plods.

Yes it would go in the learning journey.

It's just another way of doing things

    Default PLOD Sheet

    Hi,

I thought I would share an example of the PLOD sheet I use.

I put the interest in the middle (cars, trains, music etc) with the Child's name and age.
Then in the first circle I put what I have planned for the interest (take a trip on a train, make train biscuits, read Thomas the tank engine books, play with the train set etc), then in the next circle I write the date we did it with a brief Observation/Evaluation and the last circle I put future planning.
At the moment I am doing two plod's per child, per term, simultaneously which seems to be the right amount for the one full time child I look after who is with me 36hrs per week.
I update this sheet every Friday lunch time and it only takes me about 5 mins as I do about one activity per week from each PLOD sheet (so two items a week).
This version has 'Gloucestershire County Council' on it which I can't remove but at least it gives you an idea of what it looks like.

    Hope this makes sense
