Oh thats great! thanks... I like that idea![]()
I am going to be using folders with loose leaf pockets so I can add to them.
I had a little one start this Monday so I have his folder ready - just nothing in it yet!! Lol
Instead of doing it under different sections, I am just going to do it chronologically. I personally would find it a lot more work to section things as well, especially as some observations etc will come under different sections.
Every 3 months or so, I will go through and if I think I havent got enough obs in one area etc, I will focus on that next.
In the past i have used scrap books and just before the children leave they have made a covers for their own 'books' (scrap isnt a very encouraging word). One of the last to leave (i'm without mindies at the mo) covered theirs in fruit prints- like potato printing but she used lemons, another just painted his.
I'm hoping that the children personalising their books is 'allowed' now we have eyfs- the local auth 'learning journals' look very boring.....![]()
I am doing mine chronologically too. Look back every few weeks and see what we did and what I wrote as next steps to make sure we are moving on.

I have finally decided (I think lol) to do both. I aim to have a folder for each file containing their Learning Journey which will have observations, planning for their next steps, photos and some artwork. The scrapbook will be a general artwork folder (as I dont see the point of putting 10 pictures done one after another which I may, or may not, have done an observation on, in the folder which is more EYFS based). If a child is very much 'part time' with me then I may just do the folder.
Then again... I may change my mind again next week![]()
