    Default Painting....which areas of learning?

    Hi everyone,

I am coping well with the obs, planning etc but when it comes to linking activities to EYFS, I am dumb. Can anyone help me with linking this activity please?

On Monday, I set up paints, paper and brushes for my nearly 1 year old mindee. He loved it and after I showed him how to dip the brush into the paint and then transfer to paper, he did it himself dipping brush into different colour and dabbing onto paper. He then felt the brush squishing the paint between his fingers and looking at his hand. He didn't put it in his mouth which I had envisaged him doing.

I am now about to glue his picture into his book and linking to EYFS. Is this right?

PSED - Continue to be interested, excited and motivated to learn. J was happy to use the brush and dip into paint and dab onto paper, and was looking at me smiling.

CLL - not sure about this one, but would have thought either Writing/Handwriting.

KUW - Exploration and Investigation - Investigate objects and materials

PD - Using Equip and materials

CD - Developing imagination and imaginative play.

    Thank you

Personally I would definitely link it to CLL too.

I'm sure you must have spoken about what you were doing whilst you were doing it

Not sure on using "He was happy to use the brush"

I've always been taught that you must not make assumptions. e.g. How do you know for sure he was happy?

I was taught to use "He appeared happy to use the brush"

I'd definitely link to CLL there is so much in there, discussing colours etc.

i thought that if you link it to CLL ,you still have to link it to the other subcategory in CLL.
    Am I wrong???

You dont have to link it to all areas. 1 is fine. so you could choose any really. CLL for mark making, CD for creating etc

Its something that comes in time. I used to use the 6 areas with the prev foundation stage and after a while of flicking through to see where an ob would come under, I soon got my head around it and im sure you will too, just keep looking through the areas when/if you get 5 mins to see what types of things will come under each area

I just use the areas. There's no way I'm linking to sub-categories of the areas. I have enough to do already!

I do the same at the mo as I seperate my scrap books in the 6 areas and put everything in in date order...work, obs, pics etc. Will see what Ofsted say when they visit

Maybe this is where a tracking sheet could come in handy so we could cross off the areas as and when for our reference
