    Default Settling in period

Had a new baby started with me last week she is going to be coming one day a week . I have spoken to parents and they have marked off points where they think there child is at . i did a treasure basket and got the bubbles out and the rest of the time we did free play getting to know each other, I noted down now she left when mum and dad went smiling at people she hadn't seen before , exploring new things ie the treasure basket but no full on observation i have marked off a couple points on the eyo outcomes though from this .For next week im going to get out sensory bottles and musical instruments. Am i right in thinking that i can do free play and introduce new toys etc for 4 weeks whilst baby gets to know me and the setting before i start doing full observations and next steps ? Thanks XX

Those are observations (smiling, exploring etc) and your next steps are to get out sensory bottles etc. You are already doing it. No need to do much more, these are the child's 'starting point', by keeping track of obs and where child is at in DM you can show progress- which is what EYFS is all about.
