Default Question about assessment summery form

I know I'm being really thick but it's been a long paperwork day.

Could someone explain what E D S means that I've seen on a Assessment summery chart

I think it's emerging, developing and secure.

If you wish to follow the EYFS it is the 3 E's:
    Emerging, Expected and Exceeding...
someone has obviously come up with different ideas...probably some LA. to confuse matters further... I would keep it to the 'terminology' inspectors will use and judge us by...
I have never come across 'secure' or 'developing'...play safe!

    Just had a thought!!

Emerging / working within / secure are used by the ECAT programme (every child a talker) - it might have come from there

    • Emerging (E) – the child sometimes does what the age range says
    • Working within (W) – the child often does what the age range says
    • Secure (S) – the child nearly always does what the age range says

You are possibly right...there is also one for the children who are 'exceeding' and who we can 'move forward' in our planning
my view is to use the EYFS language so there is a 'common terminology' with the inspectors...if I recall correctly it is the 3 Es that are mentioned in the '2 year old Progress check' guide?

I have found that since EYFS 2012 has been out many practitioners do not understand that observations = formative assessment
and many are unsure about the meaning of summative assessment as well

in a way it is what has happened to 'all about me' which is nothing else but 'starting point'
While I believe we should use what we feel comfortable with I prefer using a language shared with the inspector...I wonder how others feel on this?
