A lot of people really worry about the characteristics - I don't think they are explained very well and the wording is not always accessible.

I use them to note how children are learning and I try to link into how they are learning when I am planning.

I have put some information about them in free downloads at the top of the forum

The Characteristics of Effective Learning

Basic/sound knowledge of child development means the CoEL are clear and used to plan effectively and individually.
Your download is very good... I had no problem with it but we also need to audit ourselves and make sure we are catering for all children's needs.
This particular audit is not one I would use but it helps self reflection in what we provide and how to improve practice.
