    Default Continuous PLI

There's a thread on Mumsnet at the moment regarding whether it is ok to cancel or not renew your PLI whilst on a break from minding eg on maternity leave.

My understanding is that since EYFS came in PLI became a condition of registration and that with the new EYFS (3.62 PLI must be held) this is still the case. Others are arguing that if you aren't actually minding you shouldn't need it & aren't breaking these conditions.

I wondered if either of you (or anyone else on here) had come across this & had any definitive (ie not front line help desk staff) confirmation either way from Ofsted?

A number of childminders who have had recent Ofsted inspections after avoiding it for a while - people who were not actively minding for example - have been graded inadequate because they have allowed their PLI to lapse.

You are absolutely right - it is a condition of registration to have PLI - whether you are working or not.

Thanks Sarah - I like being right
I don't suppose you have any links to Ofsted reports where this has happened so I can have some ammo - we are being accused of scaremongering and cm's are being given dangerous advice

Sorry I don't have anything beyond people emailing me for advice.
