Hi all, I'm new on here. I've just joined the forum and this is my first post.
I am interested in starting childminding but have sooo many questions and I don't really know where to start and how to go about it
You need to contact the Family Information Service for your local council. They will put you on a breifing session with CSSIW. They will tell you about childminding, give you forms and tell you how you go about applying and meeting the National Minimum Standards for Registered Childcare in Wales (NMS)..
What qualifications do I need?
You will need to do an Introduction to Childminding Course (ICP) before submitting your application.
How long does the process take?
The CSSIW aim to have people registered in 6 months of submitting the application form, not including completeing breifing session and course - however 3 years ago it took me 11 months and I was already a childminder in England. Others have been 4 months
If i devide to go ahead, when can i expect to be anle to start childminding?
Would depend on demand in your area and how long the registration process took
Is it easy to make a living out of childminding?
Depends on demand but I have returned to it
I'm actually a qualified teacher but I'm not working at the moment and want to take this opportunity for a career change. What sort of course would I need to go on?
Everyone has to do the ICP course to register in Wales
I have a 4 year old just about to start school full time and a 1 and a half year old.
Maximum numbers you could be registered for is 6 children under 8 with no more than 3 under 5 and no more than 2 of those under 18 months, but this includes your own children. At present both your children are under 5 so would leave you one space for another child under 5 (at present there is no special rising 5s clause in Wales they are either over or under 5 years whether in school fulltime or not.
I'm sorry this all seems a bit jumbled but I hope someone can help or at least point me in the right direction! Thanks in advance
