I have heard this but they say you can sterilize them in the microwave (I think)

I would still use them...I personally think this is all going a bit too far.
Unless it is obviously dirty then I wouldt use but that has never happened.

generations of kids have quite successfully used toilet rolls in arts and crafts projects ....

I must be naive I'd have thought if you wash hands before avtivity and after would be ok. We were going to use toilet rolls to make vase cards for mothers day ( think the idea was on here somewhere. ) guess I best get kitchen rolls then

Had a thread on here years ago about this, there was research done by a university that proved there was no risk from egg boxes and toilet rolls.

    Can't find it now.

There was also a discussion about this on Silkysteps.com, I think the general opinion was that it is ok to use them.

I use toilet rolls for things like binoculars and models... I use egg boxes for all sorts of things as well.

I just check they are clean first and if they are not I throw them away

    Sorry !!!!
I was just soooo shocked when I heard it that I thought it had to be wrong ..just wanted to know if anyone else had heard it which is why I asked.. can you imagine all the fab things we would have to give up because of health and safety.. and what about poor Blue Peter . I had a feeling it was a topic that had pros and cons and that most people would say daft.

Oh Sarah obviously if looked dirty or dodgy would put it in the bin (recycle bin that is

Why would you feel the need to put something that is supposedly full of germs etc into your microwave where you would then place food?

I don't use toilet rolls as during my college days whilst doing my nursery nursing diploma, I had to correct an assignment in which I had written about using them. My tutor made me change it to say i had used kitchen roll tubes, ever since then I had assumed we couldn't use them.

I've not read all the replies but it's not true, you can use egg boxes definitely. There was even a poster about this on the HSE site.
