play areas

hi im new going throu reg process at mo so after loads advice and info hope im posting in rite place
im after info on playareas /were u have floor cushion area etc in ur home
reason i ask as my downstair is open planned livingroom then dining area at back with kitchen it quite large but still no idea were put my area
it would be lot easier if my spare room wasnt on first floor as i wouldve been happy to turn it into play round and use down stairs too so after info and advice thanks

Remember it's your home, not a nursery! you don't have to have dedicated play 'areas'. My home is pretty open plan too, different parts of the downstairs get used for different things over the course of the day and at the end of the day it's still a home. I have a bunch of ordinary (not floor) cushions that the children often use to make a 'reading' area, in the corner of the room between the bookcase and the sofa (they get thrown behind the sofa at the end of the day). However we also read on the sofa, all crammed onto an armchair, sprawled across the floor etc.
In my lounge we generally have toys out, dining room for table activities and kitchen for messy play on a small table. Toys are stored in the cupboard under the stairs (this was open until my hubby put folding doors across to hide all the shelves and toys). I fold back the doors at the start of the day so that children have a degree of self selection (they can't reach everything)
