Smelly discovery bottles
One of my Mindees love smelling things and I wondered if anyone has experience of making smelly discovery bottles?
Thanks Sweetpea x

I have some of these.
I put holes in plastic bottles. Either heat a large nail and melt holes in or fill bottle with water, freeze and use a drill, the ice stops the bottle collapsing when you drill into it.
Fill with smelly things. The things I have found that work well are strong smelling herbs (lavender, rosemary), dried herbs, fruit tea bags, lemon peel, and pine needles.
Some children love the different smells.

I was going to do this but in the hols we went to a national trust place that had set up a sensory tent. They had used those mini organza bags for smelly things. They put drops of essential oils on cotton wool in the bag and then tied the top. What a fab idea! I am definitely going to do this but I was wondering how you store them? Or maybe you just make up for a week and throw the inside away?

Not smelly bottles but I keep all the lids from different cooking sauces, jams etc and keep them all in a box. The lo's love playing with them and smelling them. Even when washed they keep their smell.

How about those cheap glitter shaker pots? Pound land do a few in a pack I think? We used to use film pots, but don't know if any one uses them nowadays!!

Fab ideas!
I would keep them in ziplock plastic bags in between sessions to keep 'fresh'.
Will be using the sock idea but using my stash of odd socks (I have many!)

I made a set of sensory bottles using small lucozade bottles.in one of them I melted some tiny holes with a hot skewer and ive hung a fruit tea bag so it dangles on its string that I trapped into the lid.The kids love sniffing at the little holes
