I've seen these done with weetabix and with choco rice krispies. I've been searching but a lot of the recipes I've found seem very complicated for such a simple looking no-bake cake to do with 2 and 3 year olds!

Why is "phonics" not spelled the way it sounds?
For authentic looking nests we use melted chocolate (which I melt in the microwave to avoid accident with little ones and hot water) and crushed schredded wheat, they love crushing them up with their hands and adding it to the chocolate - put into bun cases and add a mini egg or two or a chick. Don't taste quite as nice as those made with rice crispies but do look more like nests.
That's more like it. Nice and simple. I saw some that called for all sorts, like flour and golden syrup and sultanas.
Thanks so much. We'll be doing these next week.

You can also use cornflakes in the same way - they taste nice too

I used to always make them with shredded wheat because they do look the business until I discovered that lots of the kids didn't eat them so I went back to using rice crispies but I might try mixing them with weetabix
Thanks for the hint
Celine
You could always try coconut.
I use cornflakes for mine

A little syrup and butter melted with the chocolate makes them a little chewier/tastier.
They tend to be rock hard with just chocolate so the syrup/butter gives them a nicer texture IMO.
