Truss wants schools open all day to solve childcare crisis
She is now following Gove's lead...also where is this crisis she keeps mentioning apart from the one she is creating??

Seriously a 5 year old wont make a distinction of when 'school'( formal education) ends and the after school stuff ( wrap around care)starts. At least with a childminder they get a home environment either side of the formal education. I wouldn't like my child to be in an educational setting from 8am to 6 pm.

i love the way Truss says teaching assistants could run this wrap around care.... she has obviously switched off during one of her cosy chats with Gove, who the other day was saying lets axe teaching assisstants

So any one know anything about home schooling as by the time ds is at school age I don't think I will be wanting him to go.

Damnit, it hurts my heart to leave my son in that one, dark, over crowded, cramped, hot, busy classroom for 6 hours every single day. But to do it for 9.5 or 10 hours every day is truly beyond insane.
Our kids will become so ill. Bugs and viruses will become trapped in those classrooms. The schools will develop sick building syndrome. Kids WILL become depressed. They will become physically and mentally ill from the stress of being cooped up in one room their whole day. Kids will simply explode.
Honestly, I can't think of anything worse than trapping young bodies and minds into the same building, with the same people, doing the same things day after day after day after day. Adults get ill from working in offices, and they chose that kind of work, poor little people.

Up to us to fight this one too...as if ratios were not enough Truss seems to unveil her policies as she wants...ratios out schools in!
whatever will she think of next??
She thinks schools should be open all day...and yes some of the sports facilities should be open to the children
But that does not mean kids in school all day...parents must have a choice as to where their kids will go...do parents agree with their child being institutionalized every day??
What this will create though is competition with cms and other businesses who run after school care...at the back of her mind there must be the idea that competition will lower costs!

Shocking Those poor poor children

If I see Truss's face on my TV I'll put my foot through the screen. She is a loon!
Parents will vote with their feet. They can't make anyone do anything. It certainly wont be free. They would still have to offer snacks. I'm glad my kids are old enough to get themselves home from school and chill.
I despair for the next generation if she gets her way.

The poor children - being in a larger group they would not be able to go and have a rest, or play out on their bikes etc, go for a nature walk to get fresh air, feed ducks etc after (or before) school!! What will happen to their childhood :-(
I do lots of after school activities, based upon the needs of the individual child, and what they feel they would like to do each day. Being at school before and after school won't make things better - the children will just remember when they are grown up, that they spent all their time at school!!!
-
Most of the schools in my area already offer this and I thought this was the case in all schools in other parts of the country. When it was first introduced a lot of childminders lost their after school children but they seem to have gradually returned to us, I wonder why!
