Default wear and tear or legit expense?

I bought a big Vax carpet shampooer for cleaning the playroom and hallway (etc) carpets. The dirty water tank needs replacing (a mindee broke it) and its going to cost over £40

Does this come under wear and tear or can I put it through the books?

    thank you.

I think it depends if it is used solely for childminding, if it is then yes you can put the full cost through your books. However if you use it for other areas for example bedrooms that aren't used for childminding then you will only be able to put a proportion of the the cost. You could always ring the tax office to check

I think it would come under wear and tear. Its not a new item you are purchasing, its a replacement part. Sorry

Wear and tear is actually that as things get older. I think it would depend on "how" the mindee broke it as to whether it could be claimed as an expense

Can you justify it to a tax inspector?

The one thing it definately isn't is wear and tear as Debbie says.

You can claim for replacement/servicing/maintenance of equipment used wholly or partially for chlidminding in the same ratio you can claim for the cost of that equipment (you did claim for the original purchase didn't you?)

So if you only use it to clean up baby sick/kiddie dirt so your home is habitable, claim 100% but if you also use it to clean up after your family/a party etc. claim a fair percentage as Smiley says.

Thank you. That is good news. We don't have family parties, oh to have the time, lol!

Yes I did claim for it in the first instance as i bought it specifically for cleaning up wee/sick etc
