I have a menu for my little ones, and what I did was do a 'mock shop' on ASDA online shop to purchase all food I would need to make food. I then divided the price up between mindees and came up with a grand total of £4.00 per child per day (Which strangely enough was what I had been claiming anyway!!). I assume this will keep the tax man happy.

That is a very good idea of Alison's... I do something similar but I came up with a bit more than that - though we do tend to use organic and we cook from scratch every day

I like Alison's way of doing this too but I also put down more than that amount per child

Don't forget to include all snacks too fruit especially can vary a lot in price

I am glad I have read this because I have been way underestimating - I have only charged 50p for after schoolers and 1.00 for full time and that included stuff like loo roll, tissues, washing up liquid etc. I dont know quite how I existed before this site. Thank you.

I wemt on Managing your Own Buisness course last year and they mentioned you are allowed to claim £3.00 per meal (meat & 2 veg) and £1.5o per snacky meal, could be up to £6 per child per day

looks like I need to do my 'shop' again, my £4.00 includes breakfast, lunch, dinner and 2 snacks! Think I'll increase to £5.00 a day, does that sound about right?

I think it also depends on the age of the kids because I spend much more in the holidays when I've older children with me all day because they eat so much in relation to the younger ones

this is one area of accounts that I think is really tricky to get right

    Just a quick question.

Do you put the expense through your accounts on a daily basis or total it up and put a weekly figure in??

I do mine weekly. The page would get too long otherwise. I have 5 different children and more in the holidays.

I just use my grocery receipt, highlight what is used for mindees and I quarter the cost of things like toilet and kitchen roll, washing up liquid and cleaners. The grand total goes on my expense report and the receipt gets tossed in a folder. My husband has designed my expense sheets on the computer so I don't use the NCMA one, therefore do not charge per child. I find it easier.
Why is "phonics" not spelled the way it sounds?

Think I need to sort myself out as I have not been claiming that much per child. More like 2 pound per day. That breakfast, lunch and a hot freshly cooked dinner! What I did before I found you lot I will never know!
