adoption allowance

can anyone tell me if you have to but adoption allowances on tax form (think it tax at source) friend who just started childminding has asked me this question and l can't help, any help would be great she will soon be using this site herself told her every one on here is very helpful and guild us the right way.

I have read though about adoption allowance as its on the same page as my maternity allowance and I believe its tax free and does not effect any other monetary element

Is your friend a self employed childminder and gets adoption allowance?

I thought we could not get it.
Please tell me more as I would love to find out if I qualify for it when I take adoption leave (hopefully next year some time)

yes my friend is a childminder as well and gets adoption allowance
It depends on your yearly income and is reassess yearly plus if your child has any special needs your supervicing link worker and adoption advicer will discuss this when you are near to date of child living with you, you should get a set up allowance in order to get equitment for child (bedroom furniture etc) wish you all the luck and hope the wait not too long.

oh i see, you mean some type of allowance to help with the child.

I thought you meant "adoption allowance", as in the equivalent of "maternity allowance". ie 90% of income for 39 weeks
