    Default Car repairs.

    Hi

I have a 7 seater Galaxy and skidded on ice last week hitting the kerb. I've now had the estimate to repair the damage and it's around £600, that's parts only and it may be more if the stearing rack needs sorting as well. Can I put this through my books? I didn't put the car through my books when I bought it 2 years ago.

I would say no tbh, it wasn't because of child minding you skidded or because of the children was it?

I only claim stuff if it is directly for child minding or directly because of child minding

Sorry, not a nice time of year to have that sort of bill either is it

I was going to do a nursery pick up at the time that's why I thought I might be able to put it down as expenses. I wouldn't have ventured out other wise it was too cold brrrrrrrrrr.

Is the quote you have from a main dealer's garage? If it is I would ask around for recommendations on small 'back street' garages. They are usually a lot cheaper and as they often rely on word of mouth for advertising (much like us) I have always felt the quality of service is much better.

I would say no as your 40p per mile includes repairs to the car and insurance covers accidents. If someone had put that though their expenses at work (same principle we pay 40p per mile for those that use their own cars), even if they did it whilst at work I would be telling them to pay out of their pocket or their insurance.

    No youcant Im afraid!

You can either choose the 40p a mile route which covers everything or you can put the cost of the car itself through your books along with costs but this is quite complicated and the car then becomes an asset of the business and you have a nasty long tax return each year!
