i usually get one to say wether i do or don't have to pay tax
sent my tax return in May received reply in september but i don't do mine on line so could be different but if you haven't received one i would phone them just to confirm that you don't have to pay anything

Thanks, I was dumb just realised why dont i double check my account online. I have and it does say nothing which is good. By the way to anyone wondering online is easier not so many boxes looking at you esp as i had two incomes to add.

Thanks for that tip Louise - I've always been a bit scared of putting the wrong numbers in the boxes or something... so I get my stuff together and ring the local tax office and they talk me through it all... bit of a wimp with numbers...

Maybe I'll try it online in April though if it's easier

I have done my return on-line for the last couple of years.

have to say it is much easier as it jumps the sections you don't need to complete and if you miss something that you did need to complete, or if figures don't add up, it will tell you.

Your accounts run from April 07 to April 08 and for the whole year you are allowed to earn (after deductions) just over £5,000 if you're a single person... not sure what the married allowance is, sorry. Is it different?

If you're earning £90 a week and losing about 2/3 in deductions, that's £30 x 17 weeks (ish)... so you're going to be putting about £500 through your books ... not a worry!

Just make sure they know you're self employed and they will send you a return in April - or as the ladies here have recommended, you can do it online.

My allowence is just over £5000 too, makes no odds if married or not, it's what 'you' make (it just effects any benifits as in I get none! £45 per month tax credits and family allwence at pence per month too!)
