Default When do I tell HMRC?

    Hi,

Just had my reg-reg visit so am only waiting for my certificate before I can get started.

But when should I tell HMRC that I am running a business from?

Do I tell them from when my certificate arrives? That's when my business will technically open

Or when I start looking after my first child?

    Thanks xx

    Good morning.

    Congratulations and how exciting.

I don't know when you should tell them! I suggest giving them a call and asking.

Good luck with your future adventures

    X

    Congratulations and welcome to childminding!!

You need to inform HMRC as soon as you are registered - are you getting a grant? You will need to record that as income...

Are you spending money on resources and setting up? Don't forget to record it as expenses...

    My guidance might be useful

Thanks Sarah. I figured it was safer to register straight away rather than wait. Am I right in thinking we can't claim back the cost of our registration items: HBCA, first aid, Ofsted, DBS? I can't recall where I read it so it might have been a dream I had lol.

You can't claim the actual cost of these back, but you can put them in your expenses in your accounts, so you won't pay tax on them. X
