    Default House insurance?!

Sorry if this is in the wrong place!

Just wondered if it was completely normal for house insurance to shoot up once you tell them you Childmind from the home? Ours has just been quoted at £500 a year which is a massive increase on the £217 we were paying! Does anyone know of any insurers that don't charge ridiculous fees?

Try Morton michel see if theres is cheaper. Husband deals with insurance in this house and we changed to morton michel some time ago. Some insurers say a really low amount of children can be present in your home at anyone time (childminder children but have to include young ones of your own of course) MM is 12 children I believe and think pacey is the same. Think I have this correct, but someone will come along in a mo and put me straight!

I've gone with Pacey recommended Blue Fin it is tailor made for childminders and covers the maximum amount of children as allowed by you PLI, really good cover and not ridiculously expensive :-)

Our buildings insurance was with Nationwide and they were happy for me to continue with the policy with no amendment to the premium. I took out my contents insurance with Churchill (Churchill and Direct Line both say on their websites that childminders are covered). It was actually cheaper than my existing policy!
