Hi can I put a percentage of my house and contents insurance through my books? I have it with MM as it covers me for my business use, if yes how much ?

I never have put a percentage through for house building and contents insurance but I don't think I pay much more for a policy as a childminder than I would do if I didn't mind. Maybe get a quote as a minder and a non minder and put through the difference. I just go for standard quotes with Aviva - they won't give me accidental damage cover but I always think that they do their best not to pay out anyway!

If you are already using a business use percentage like Debbie you can include insurance in the calculation.

If you aren't using that you can claim a "reasonable apportionment". HMRC have accepted 10% as a resonable apportionment in the past, but there is no official line on this and no guarantees.
