Hi, to change the width of, for example, column D, then click and hold the mouse button down on the line between column D and E (shown in the attachment). Drag either left or right to change the width. You'll know when the mouse is in the right position to click because the cursor arrow will change to two arrows pointing left and right.

Hope this helps

Hi,
Thanks Martin. It doesnt work f8r some strange reason.
It's ok though, I need to add more rows & columns so will have a go at doing my own.
Thanks for all your help in sharing this though x
hi,
sorry, newly registered as a childminder and not sure if to get a bookkeeper or do it myself?
would it only be this spreadsheet i would need to complete, is this all the bookkeeper would do?
thanks
Hi, yes that's all you need to do. No need to pay anyone else to do it x
thanks Emmalou, I'm finding it quite a daunting task
I haven't started earning yet, so will i have to do a tax return for 2013/14 if i start to earn between now and march? when do i need to do tax return etc??
i have no idea where to start with the finance side of things, help! :(
Even if you haven't earned anything in your first year you still need to do a tax return. Glad to be of help :-)
Hi all,
Last year I posted a spreadsheet for accounting that seemed to prove useful to many. Here are the links to the next financial years..
www.horrod.com/Accounts201415.xls for excel 97-03
www.horrod.com/Accounts201415.xlsx for later versions
I've made a few changes, mostly with the layout so it's more printer friendly and easier to navigate. The most useful change is the ability to enter your start time and finish time for each day and 'it' works out the hours worked for that day. I found this got tedious on the last version! Make sure you enter the time in with a : between the hours and the minutes. :)
Thanks all!
happytoddlers, you are quite frankly amazing! I cannot tell you how much easier your spreadsheet has made my life...thank you SO much for sharing this :clapping:
Fad spread sheet just a pointer you can claim 45p per mile for petrol :-)
Thanks so much :clapping:
Thank you!
When entering our hours worked do we enter the actual time the first child arrived & the exact the last child left or the hours they were booked in for? So if a child was booked in 7:30 until 5:30 but arrived at 7:40 & left at 5:20 which figures do we enter?
Thank you!
Kirsty x
Hi Kirsty,
Oooh that's a grey area that! TBH I'm not sure. In the past I've been entering the figures for the time I'm getting paid. With what I've noticed this past year, even if you put down the exact times I would reckon that after averaging it would only effect your final calculations by a few pounds. It's a good point Kirsty.
Thanks!
I'm gonna record the contracted times on the spreadsheet because that's what I get paid for and what is important in terms of my accounts. I have a separate attendance register to record exact times.
Don't know if that's right but it makes sense to me so I'm going with it!
In the attendance log it must be the actual hours logged not the contracted ones.
Thank you so much, this is fantastic again. I've used yours this year and it's so simple and easy. Xx
Thank you so much for sharing this, I have been using it for this year and love how it takes one of the most stressful tasks that I always find so difficult and makes it really simple.
Thank you so much, you are an absolute star :thank you:
hi
this is great thank you!
If I charge a daily fee for meals, I assume I would then not put through food I purchase as an expense?
Thanks
Hi,
Personally I don't. I charge £1.50 for a lunch so I don't declare this as income and I don't put the food down as an expense either. The same with outing costs, I invoice for the cost of entry to places etc.. but I put down purely the labour element of the invoice for the accounting.
Thanks!
Hi,
I have tried to put the hours in the columns but it throws up a different time to what I put in very odd, any ideas please x
Thank you so much. I hate working out the hours I need to invoice.:)
Hi All,
After this FY I've realised that I should be claiming more proportioned costs such as 33% of the TV Licence, 50% of mobile phone, 50% of ink cartridges etc.. All helps :) So the spreadsheet now has an extra few columns allowing you to enter these easily. If it's easier then I guess we're more likely to put them down and save more.
Downloads below..
Under 'Shared Family/Business Costs' put the full amount such as £12.12 for a TV Licence. Then under '% Proportion Childminding' put say 33. The spreadsheet will then calculate this proportion and add it to your expenses. I've put a few examples in for you to see which you can replace with your own entries.
Download is here..
www.horrod.com/Accounts201415V3.xlsx
or for older versions of excel..
www.horrod.com/Accounts201415V3.xls
Thanks :):)
See page 10. TV licence isn't an allowable expense unfortunately
http://www.childmindinghelp.co.uk/fr...nformation.pdf
Thanks for the great link there. Further searching....NCMA claim that you can only claim the TV License if it is solely used for childminding..which I should think in most cases is not the case. :(:( See downloadable document below:
http://www.horrod.com/NCMAv5.pdf
Fantastic resource, many thanks once again :)
hello may someone send me the link for the spread sheet please x
www.horrod.com/Accounts201415.xls
or for newer versions of excel (2003 on) use..
www.horrod.com/Accounts201415.xlsx
Thanks for using..:)
Thank you happytoddlers for sharing :) This is fantastic and very useful!
Hi
I use that spreadsheet and it's fab!!!
Can someone advise me? Hope this question makes sense?!
In the tax year 2013-2014 I used NCMA book accounts. In my tax return I put 31.03.2014 as end of accounts.
For 2014-2015 I'm using this great spreadsheet. Accounts period on it starts on 7th of April so on tax return it looks like I have a gap (01/04-06/04).
What shall I do with it so my books are correct?
thanks in advance for any help
Hello,
Thank you so much for the fantastic spreadsheet.
I am a new Childminder and I'm thinking to start each month from the 1st, not sure if it is the correct way. I'm using the 2013/14 at the moment.
Would it be possible to send me by private message the password to unlock it.
Thanks again.
Do you declare all your expenses if you are receiving working tax credit rather than paying tax ie you are working less hours? Also if you are doing other work, in my case tutoring can I use the same process-are allowances specific to childminding or do they generally apply to self employed people?
I'm thinking I should put the tutoring on the same spreadsheet but perhaps unlock and edit the wording-and use the same percentage principle as for childminding. The only thing is I don't know if my expenses will actually make any difference to my final TC award. I think you get the full wack until you earn over £5,000-ish
Thanks for the fantastic spreadsheet of course btw!
