How strict are they, and how easy is it to pass? I havfe 2 small childrenn of my own and i know i look after them well but the thought of beingjudged as a parent like this really scares me.
And exactly how clean does your home have to be? does it have to look like the cover of good housekeeping? Do they inspect every single toy you own? Do they inspect all drawers, supboards, closets, nooks and crannys?

Welcome to the forum dont forget to come and say hello in the hello section so everyone can welcome you and so we know who we are speaking to
Crikey you have got your self into a tizz about your pre reg havent you ? There really is no need honestly
They are not there to judge you in any way
They will want to know that you are aware of the standards - and if you are aware that you need policies etc and a folder for the parents to see when they visit
You will need to show that you are going to show children that they need to wash their hands at meal times and when going to the toilet etc etc etc
You will have to show them the rooms you will be using so they can advise if you need anything like gates or safety glass maybe if you have any cabinets or anything
Locks in the kitchen
Safetly sockets in your plug sockets
Where you are going to keep things like bleach etc
Lots of things that are just basic common sense
If your house is a little untidy because of the children do not worry about that the children have to play
Why dont you look around the forum heaps of advice here about your pre reg
She is there to help and advise you and will let you know anything that you need to do
They are usually lovely , friendly and helpful
Good luck

Um, d'ya think you could give me a link tothe say hello section cos i cant seem to find it:blush:
I do understand how you feel. I have always considered myself to be a good housekeeper and always thought my house is pretty clean and tidy until now! Like you I feel they are going to scrutinise my every move and whip a pair of white gloves on as soon as they get through the door! Everyone on here has said its nothing like that and I'm sure not all these lovely ladies can be wrong!
I think its just the fear of the unknown and I'm sure you'll sail through it

Hello!!
I had my pre reg on Wednesday,
The only reason my house was tidy for her was because my hubby went out with the kids!
I passed!!!, She did not look in any of the cupboards I just told her the ones which have locks on and why.
She looked round the house, only the rooms I was registering though. Although sometimes they ask to see all apprantly.
Asked about how I would meet the standars, which is common sense but remember to read up on them!!
She gave me a few actions, we are having to sell the cross trainer, much to hubbys disapointment.

It really is not that bad but as you say it is the fear of the unknown. With the pre reg they are there to help and advise. As long as you have read your standards you should be fine. You will probably have safety measures in the house if you have small children but they will let you know what else is needed. My inspector didn't check our bedroom which I am really glad about as I had thrown everything in there. She just wanted confirmation I didn't have a gun or snake in there:eek: also inspectors are fickle creatures!!! what one sees as an action another doesn't iyswim. A friend of mine had to remove a climbing frame whereas my inspector never made a mention of mine.
Don't worry it will be fine

Don't worry!
The inspector will sit and chat to you whilst typing away on her lap top! She will have a quick glance around your house and garden and that's it!
She won't snoop in your drawers or run fingers along the tops of your doors or skirting boards!
You'll be amazed at how it will go and wish you hadn't wasted your time worrying.
Honest!

Angel you mentioned that you have to show how you would show children how to wash hands...... do you have to do this in writting, orally or using photos etc?
Sorry for the questions xx

Yes make it clear that the children have an understanding of washing their hands and that it comes automatic to them
But of course that would be hard to show at pre - reg
So for now you will just need to explain that you are aware that the children will need to know this and that you will be explaining the importance of it
There are some hand washing posters somewhere in the forum - you could print off one of those and say you are going to show the children
Its just about common sense really with everything - showing that you are aware of what you need to do
If you cant find the poster give us a shout and I will look for it for you

My inspector didnt look inside my cupboards and draws, just asked what was inside them. She did comment on my skirting boards though, said they need a clean
I felt a bit like you, I didnt want her going round my house. She spent about an hour walking round the house with me (its not big) and wanted me to point out any hazards and say what I have done/plan to do.
she was here for about 3 hours
