Short term planning is about following children's interests with new ideas to extend them...

This is the most important part of planning.

The rest of the planning is flexible depending on what you want to do.

Hth :D

The only planning I do is the children's individual next steps and short term planning - but this is in my head not written down. As Sarah said its about following children's interests, so if I notice on Monday that child A enjoys rolling balls around the kitchen floor I might extend this on Tuesday by doing painting using balls and on Wednesday I might use some plastic guttering in the garden to roll balls down. I don't feel that medium and long term plans are appropriate or necessary in a childminding setting. (And yes I did tell the Ofsted Inspector this!)

I think Rosebud's latest inspection grade shows how well she explained her paperwork and how she meets the children's needs :D

Short term plans are like Rosebud said, about following children's interests to extend their learning. I don't do medium term plans at all and my long term planning is just what we might celebrate each month as a group, eg Mother's Day last month, Easter this month.
