Ok, I have my first graded inspection on monday after having a 3 year break from minding, so much has changed since my last inspection which must of been at least 6 years ago as I was due for one when I decided I had enough of minding and wanted to become a health care ass!

I think all my policies are ok, and my obs and planning seems to be ok, but I have just realised I need RA done on more or less everything I do!!!!! In the last 3 months I have taken mindees to mums and tots, play bus, walk alone the canal most days, local park every day. fields to run around with the dog, Ikea, tesco, town and so many other places, including friends houses, library and of course the school run each day.
Do I really need RA on all these and should all my outings of been approved by parents before I did them!!!

I am still working in the old school ( I am 45 and have been minding since I was 18, except the last 3 years!) where parents want minders to be a home from home for their children. All this paper work is doing my head in, I am more of less finished with doing my SEF, being right or wrong I have no idea LOL

I really didnt like working in the nursing home, but some days I think I should go back, got my NVQ2 and certs for doing it, just wanted to be at home in evenings with my girls as I used to take them to school and not see them again till next morning as I worked 5 afternoons a week ( 1pm-10pm)!!!!!!!

Ofsted want us to take mindees out, which I love to do, but with all this that I think and am sure I need to do, am thinking is it worth it!!!!
I am a mother of 3 children and as we probably all are we always check to make sure our home is safe, when we go out, we keep an eye on the children and we tell them of the dangers! So why do we need to do all this:angry:

How much of inspection will be to do with paper work, am worried as when Mrs O phoned she did say she will do paper work and then IF she has time she will observe me with the chilldren, I really wanted to screem at her saying isnt caring for the child and seeing they enjoy being me with me more important.

Help me please! Love child care but really dont think I will do well on monday:panic:

First of all, you WILL do great on Monday!
Second, you need to do a RA for each type of visit/journey you undertake.

I had my first inspection two weeks ago and she went through all my RA's (I think) but we don't do nearly as many outings as you, so I suppose this is why it didn't take very long.

For what it's worth, I mentioned in my SEF about continually doing the visual checks as you say you do, but I thought I would just be bold enough to stand up to her and say I don't personally feel the need to write every risk down, because there is more to life than filling in forms, that's why I gave up teaching...and the risks can change from day to day even on one single journey . Surely as long as they can see you are a sensible, level headed person, they can't mark you down for that?

Oh and one more thing, I don't ask my parents to approve my RA's, but I do say that copies are available on request...funnily no-one has asked me for them yet:panic:

Believe in yourself and keep talking, talking, talking. Don't be afraid to sell yourself. And don't forget to ask for her ID badge if she doesn't flash it. Have you got a visitor book as well? That always looks good I think. If you haven't, forget I even mentioned it...I'll shut up now

OMG no I havent got a visitors book, I don't get visitors as a rule, everyone knows when I am minding and stays away LOL, maybe I should do too LOL

Right, so you say I need a RA for each time I went out, does this mean a new one for each time or one for every time, can I just write a for example, local park one and use that for every day I go, or do I need one for each day I go ( am I making sense as I am confussing myself now LOL)

I so hope its the inspector I had for my reg visit, she was lovely, but got a horrible feeling it was the inspector I had 6 years ago as her name did ring a bell:(

No, only one for every time/type. Don't update it every time you go out unless you have oodles of time on your hands :panic: In theory it only gets updated if something changes or god forbid you have an accident or someone gets injured.
I have park, toddler group, school run , bus into town, library, duck pond, local shop and post office. The pond and shop RA is a continuation as it's the same route, which is explained on the sheet.

I'm sure you'll be just fine on Monday.

I used this document as a basis for my risk assessments

I don't have a visitors book, I just make a note on my register the name, time and why anyone has come round, I don't ask them to sign, just feel that's a step to far into the ridiculous for a family home lol
