Due ofsted visit any day, just wondering when they could inspect me! I have mindee 1 one morning a week and then 4 afternoons a week I have another mindee 3 after pre school, but we are only in the house for around 1 and 1/2 - 2 hours before we go out to collect from infant school and we are out for around an hour. Do you think they will come in the morning when I have more time or the afternoon when I have the older ones?

Had my inspection today and they rang to ask me when I had the children before they told me the dates between which they would come. I only have two mindees after school so she came at 1.10p.m. and did all the paperwork sat in her car whilst I raced off to school and then came straight back in to observe me and do feedback when we returned, finally left about 4.30 p.m
They'll ask you when you are out and the inspection will take 3 - 4 hours total. Letting them ask the questions and do the paperwork without the mindees trying to gain your attention is in some ways better but it means you can't provide hands on evidence at that stage.
Best of luck

I had my inspection at the end of October 2011 and the inspector arrived at 9.50 am and left just after 3pm ..... so just over 5 hours. The length of the inspections vary so much.

Mine was over 5 hours but she went and sat in the car while we collected from school. She took my files out with her and spent the time reading :D

Mine was about 3 hours which is quite long enough!!!
The length of inspections does seem to vary so much and although we're told that having a completed sef cuts down the inspection time I don't really believe that.

I think it does cut down the time as I spent hours doing the SEF but the inspection itself was just over 2hrs

I also spent hours completing mine (with the help of Sarah's ebook!) and had to e-mail it to the inspector who read it before she came but she was still with me for 3 hours. Like a lot of things, I think it's down to the individiual inspector

My last inspection was about 3 hrs and she said it would have been a lot longer if i hadn't completed my SEF. At the time i had to pick up from nursery and then pick up from pre school half an hour later. Plus i took the children home to mum as she can't drive and it was on my way home from pre school. The Inspector came everywhere with me and she also had a lovely chat with mum when she came out to the car.
