Hey,

I am currently registered for 4 under 8's, 2 in EYFS, 2 5-8 (I have a son who is 3.5yrs). I just wandered if I could requested to get this extended to 5 under 8's? I know that I can apply for variation for continuity of care but wanted to check if there is any permanent way of changing when not registered for max numbers. I do live in a 2 bed flat but just wanted to find other from other mindees.

Thanks for any info

It is very rare that permission is given unless it's unusual circumstances or continuity of care.

I think you need to contact Ofsted for more advice.

Hth :D

It depends why your numbers were restricted in the first place and whether anything has changed.

It is always worth asking Ofsted though as another inspector may look at things differently.

When I had my Ofsted vist the inspector said the number of children you could look after depended on the ages of your own children & the space in your home, she even said on occasion she'd taken out her tape measure! :panic:

My daughter who's 6 counted as one of my numbers but the size of the house meant I could look after 5 children in addition to her.

So you were given permission to look after the maximum number (5+1=6)

however it sounds like the OP has only been given permission for 5 (4+1).

I would contact ofsted and ask if there was a particular reason why permission for 5 was given. Might possibly be an issue with space:

Providers must meet the following space requirements:·
children under two years: 3.5 m2 per child;·
two year olds: 2.5 m2 per child;·
children aged three to five years: 2.3 m2 per child.

So if I measure my space and calculate it then I guess I could base it on that. I will try and see but I am not sure how much space I have but will check. Anyone can explain how to do these calculations, is it the area of the floor? And walls/ceiling height? I know it might be a silly question but can't remember how I can work this out right now.

Thank you for your replies.
