had my first inspection in dec. she told me satisfactory but with 2 grades of good. when report came all 3 s.:( have complained to prospects and made a official complete but basically have been told its the inspectors word against mine!! but i didn't even no you could get mixed grades until i spoke to my childcare officer so i couldn't have just plucked this out of this air. so now i have prospects (ofsted) investigating prospects!! because i complained that my report was not very in-depth. does anyone know if anyones grade has been changed by making a formal complaint:idea:

That's a shame and not fair at all!! Good on you for complaining - inspectors need to have some consistency in my opinion.
I had my inspection yesterday and, on reflection, I am annoyed about it. She had already decided on arrival what grade she was going to give me because she told me almost at the start. She barely looked at my paperwork so I could show her all I had done and she poo-pooed my attempts to explain why I think I am outstanding in some areas - her mind was already made up. She was very nice but just wasn't that interested in almost all of the things I had done
I hope you get the outcome you want and Prospects apologise to you. Keep us posted! :)

i agree sometimes I think the inspectors grade is already decided on how you greet them at the door. Good for complaining but as i remember once they have left the premisies its diffcult to get ofsted to amend your report.

This is the reason that inspectors tell us not to give out the grade they say they will be giving us. It is because it has to go through an internal verification procedure first and is liable to change.
The only way they could get around the chance of change is for them not to give any indication of the grade they intend to give, that way if it changes during the verification procedure no-one will know. Would be even more painful to have to wait for up to 2 months for it to come through though before we have any idea of what we are getting.
Good luck with your complaint, hope you get the outcome you are hoping for :)

thanks for that,
the more i keep thinking about it the madder i get, the opinion of 1 person for 3 hours or so on 1 day, affects us for 3 years. im not even that mad of the grade of satisfactory hoped for good but never mind, its just that she didn't hardly mention the important things about my setting. even my childcare officer was surprised at the grade and she advised me to complain. i told the complaint team at prospects that the inspection should be recorded by voice so there would be no room for error, and that two inspectors should be present to get a different perspective of a setting and not just 1 persons view, and the complaint woman actually agreed with me!!! so if a complaints team actually think that about their own company what :censored: chance do we have!!! im so mad i cant sleep at night:angry:

If you know she had graded you before she arrived or she said something like she doesn't give cms outstanding it means they have pre-judged you and they aren't allowed to do that. You should have asked her to leave immediately and rang Ofsted asking for another inspection. I would contact them on Monday morning and complain.

I'm not sure about the grade being altered but I know some members have had the wording on their reports changed. It might be that your inspector did intend to give you good in some areas but this was altered when it went through the internal verification process.
I hope your complaint gets sorted the way you want it to

I agree rickysmiths although i'm not as polite as you so if they walk through my door and say 'i've already decided what grade I am going to give you'
my reply will be 'good I have already decided that I am going to complain if I feel my grading is unfair.'
my pre-reg inspector was rude to me and I was rude back and he changed his tune and we left on 'good' terms. He complimented me.
As this is happening to lots of people I urge you to complain if you are not happy, its the only way it can be sorted.
rachmott- I would have emailed the biggest complaint ever
saying everything - her attitude, Not looking through your paperwork ect :) I feel for my inspector I love complaining!

The thing is you could have five different inspectors come into your home, do exactly and say exactly the same to all of them yet the outcome in all five cases would be completely different, even the grade they give you because they all look for different things, and don't even get me started on the ones who say I don't give outstanding as soon as they walk in your door, what's that all about?.X
